Norwegian Sweet Dough

Ingredients

  • 6 dl Milk
  • 50 g Fresh yeast
  • 2 dl Sugar
  • 1 tsp Cardamom
  • 150 g Butter, melted
  • 15 dl All-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp Salt

Instructions

  1. Heat the milk until lukewarm (37°C/98°F).
  2. Crumble the fresh yeast into a large bowl and add the lukewarm milk. Stir until yeast is dissolved.
  3. Add sugar and cardamom, stir to combine.
  4. Pour in the melted butter (ensure it's not too hot).
  5. Gradually add flour and salt while kneading. The dough should be smooth and elastic, but not too firm.
  6. Cover the bowl with a cloth and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  7. The dough is now ready to be used for various sweet buns, rolls, or pastries.
  8. For baking: Shape as desired and bake at 225°C (437°F) for about 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
